The sign reads “F café” not Fashion Café, so if you’re confused don’t worry you’re in the right place. When my friend and I got in, we were ushered in to a cozy well-lit spot. We were presented the menus, a simple one-page card. The menu options were pretty slim (Haha see what I did there?) so between my friend and I we were able to taste the entire detox menu. We started with a melon and coconut milk shot, which was super refreshing and delicious. It was definitely one of my favorites on the menu and my only query was that it came in such a small glass but again it was a ‘shot’ so oh well.
We moved on to some appetizers and this was the first instance I had an issue. The appetizer was listed as “Feta and Raspberry Quinoa Salad” but we were served a couscous salad, which completely threw me off. Nevertheless, it was quite a delicious dish. It was fresh and crisp and the raspberries worked so well in the dish. The apricot dressing was also fantastic.
For the main, the salmon was my favorite; it was perfectly seasoned and incredibly moist. Yassss, I love when salmon is done right. Tip: Ask for medium cooked, we asked for medium but if that salmon were cooked any further it’d have been burnt. So medium is a good place to be and if you really want medium ask for rare.
With the main I had a detox blend called the “Super Green Detox”, another one of my favorites, so delicious and the color was popping. Kale, mango, orange, celery and fresh mint, really really good. On to the best part, dessert. I quite enjoyed the poached peach and cashew caramel, there’s something about poaching stone fruit that’s so decadent and delightful. I had another issue with the parfait dessert menu listing. The menu said it was to be served with yogurt, but guess what? No yogurt.
Now knowing fully well I’d write this review, I decided to ask the waiter about these inconsistencies to fulfill all righteousness. I did and he rather obnoxiously replied that the quinoa was spelling error. How do you misspell an entire word? Besides if this was a “spelling error” he was aware about we should have been given a heads-up. Then, he insisted that there was yogurt stirred in the dessert. My friend said that we must have had the world’s first transparent tasteless yogurt because there was certainly no yogurt in what we were served. Another disappointing thing was that the drinks are served separately including water, which I felt was inappropriate for a DETOX menu.
As far as detox brunch, we left stuffed but there was no bloated feeling the next day. Overall I maintain that the food was quite delicious. I shared my concerns with their PR agency and they assured me the inconstancies in the menu would be duly fixed. So if you’re ever in the downtown area or want a lighter brunch option, I implore you to visit and leave a comment if you do.
I hope you find reviews like this helpful, Gbemi x
